Meet Our Staff

Alan Houck

Alan J. Houck

Executive Director

Alan J. Houck, Executive Director, came to the NHRC after 19 years of service as the Health and Physical Education teacher at Garden Spot Middle School. In 2006, Alan was named PA State Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. While at Garden Spot, he coached various teams at both the middle and high school level including Soccer, Wrestling, Rifle and Track & Field.

Alan graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Health and Physical Education. From 1982-1990, Alan served as a Staff Sergeant for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He is still an active member of the Wilderness Emergency Strike Team, Lancaster County Station 6-10, where for 17 years he served as the Chief Officer. He also volunteers for Ambulance 1-12 in Ephrata as an EMT-B.

Alan and his wife Kristina of 23 years share two sons, Curtis and Christopher. He is very active in the Boy Scouts of America, both as an Assistant Scout Master in Manheim and the PA Dutch BSA COPE director. Alan and his family reside in Lancaster.

Barb Weaver

Barb Weaver

Membership Coordinator

Barb Weaver, Membership Coordinator, knows firsthand how changes in a person's lifestyle can make all the difference in that person's world. She is so excited to share her exuberance of healthy lifestyles with the new members of the NHRC.

Barb was educated at the University of Evansville and graduated with a BS in Legal Administration. She is currently working on a degree in Nutrition from Immaculata. Having worked for several law firms in a variety of legal specialties, Barb has extensive paralegal knowledge. Most recently, Barb spent the last 6 ½ years as Legal and International Specialist for Auntie Anne's, Inc. In addition to her legal duties with Auntie Anne's, Inc., Barb organized and helped to lead the Wellness Committee to bring some healthy initiatives to the company.

Barb brings a variety of certifications with her to NHRC: NETA certification in Personal Training, NETA certification in Group Fitness Instruction, and YogaLife Institute certification in Yoga. When Barb is not running, biking or swimming, she may be found passing the time by cooking, reading, or entertaining. Barb and her husband Kurt of 15 years share three children of the "furry" variety: Doozy & Cord, both pugs, and Mama Cat. The Weavers and their furry bunch reside in East Earl Township.

Brent Watkins

Brent Watkins

Fitness & Wellness Director

As a fitness coach and personal trainer since 1996, Brent Watkins feels fortunate to be a part of this exciting time for the community of New Holland as the Director of Fitness & Wellness for the NHRC.

Brent obtained his BS in Recreation and Leisure Services Management from East Stroudsburg University in 1996 and has been in the fitness arena ever since. His experiences from Body Zone and Mitch's Marketstreet Gym, both in West Chester led him to open his own in-home personal training business prior to NHRC. Throughout his years as a personal trainer, Brent has helped to educate hundreds of people in the realm of fitness. One of his young prodigies is currently an NFL quarterback. Brent presently coaches the Cross Country team at Garden Spot High School as well as the Junior High Track team.

In his leisure time, Brent enjoys competitive road racing, reading and camping. Brent's favorite pastime is playing with his four children, Mackenzie, Lindsey, Kaleigh and Colton. He and his wife, Kim, reside in New Holland with their children.

Daryl Groff

Daryl Groff

Director of Devleopment

Daryl Groff joined the New Holland Recreation Center in 2004 as the Director of Development. Prior to joining the staff at NHRC, Daryl worked for 7 years as the Human Resource Director for Hostetter Management Company.

A native of Kinzers, PA, Daryl graduated with a BA from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. Daryl and his wife Audrey reside in Blue Ball with their four children, Adam, Sara, Hannah & Rebekah.

In his spare time, Daryl enjoys home remodeling, soccer, and reading historical fiction and international politics. Daryl is always eager to engage in a good discussion about promoting community enrichment!

Joyce Dyer

Joyce Dyer

Administrative Assistant

Joyce Dyer joined the NHRC team in April 2008 as the Administrative Assistant. She previously owned and operated New Holland Camera One Hour Lab for 19 years.

Joyce met her husband, Greg, while working for Sperry New Holland in the Purchasing and Inventory Control Departments. They have been married for 28 years and share one daughter, Jennifer, and one grandson, Harry.

Joyce enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandson Harry. She is an avid gardener and bird watcher. She also enjoys machine quilting with friends and loves a good mystery novel. Whenever time permits, Joyce can probably be found traveling the eastern seaboard searching for lighthouses.

Megan Griffith

Child Care Coordinator

Megan has been working with children for the past 10 years. She came to the NHRC after a brief "real job" experience, where she realized that working with children is where her heart is.

Megan attended Kutztown University where she majored in sociology and was part of the softball team.

When Megan is not at the Rec. she can be found playing with her 2 year old puppy or fixing up her Lancaster home. She is also looking forward to participating in her first Woman's build through Habitat for Humanity.

Andy Rohrer

Physical Plant Director

Andy has an extensive background in facility management. He owned and operated a business designing and building custom pools and spas. Also, Andy was the Executive Director of a local park and recreation commission. He came to New Holland Recreation from the Historic Saint James Episcopal Church Campus in Lancaster where he was the Property Manager/Sexton.

Andy was a long time Lancaster Lebanon League high school volleyball coach and PIAA referee. He organized and directed the Norlanco Girls Volleyball Club for many years. His other hobbies include motorcycle riding and anything in the great outdoors.

Andy and his family live near Mt. Joy. He has two children. His daughter is a radiology specialist and his son attends Millersville University. Andy is usually out and about in the rec center so say hello the next time you see him.

Becky Garvey

Receptionist/Travel and Events

Becky joined the NHRC team in December, 2008, as the NHRC Receptionist. Prior to being hired by the Rec Center, Becky was the owner of a stationery business located in Neffsville, PA.

As the Director of Fun, Becky plans and coordinates special events for the Rec Center such as bus trips, fundraising events, and celebrations.

A busy mom to 11 year old Samantha, Becky enjoys spending time cheering on her favorite athlete. Whether it's a soccer match, a horse show or a tennis practice, Becky and Sam can often be found in the car criss-crossing eastern Lancaster County. Becky also views shopping as a sport, loves girls night out, good chocolate and having FUN!!

Becky is a native Lancastrian and currently lives within the Conestoga Valley School district.

Hilary Lutz Sauder

Assistant Fitness & Program Director

Hilary is very excited about being a member of the NHRC team.

Hilary Sauder is a South Jersey native who recently moved to Lancaster County. Her undergraduate degree is in Biokinetics from Eastern University, and she is pursuing her Masters in Occupational Therapy. Hilary has experience in musculoskeletal and cardiac rehab, corporate fitness, and personal training. She is a firm believer in lifestyle fitness.

Hilary recently celebrated her one year anniversary with her husband, Eric. They reside in Ephrata along with their dog and two cats. In her spare time Hilary enjoys long walks on the beach (particularly at sun set), tennis, riding bike, photography, traveling, reading, rook, cognitive stimulating conversations, trying to keep her garden alive, and hanging/exercising with the hubs.

Tracy Carlson

Assistant Aquatics Director

Tracy has been involved in aquatics for 15+ years. She is a Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, and CPR/First aid/ AED instructor. She also is certified by Aquatics Exercise Association (AEA) to teach aquatic fitness, and a Certified Personal Trainer. "I enjoy teaching and seeing my student's progress in the classes I teach in and out of the water."

 













Nicole "Nicki" Martin

Assistant Membership Coordinator

Nicki, joined the Rec in January 2009 working at the front desk. Prior to joining the Rec, Nicki graduated from Central Pennsylvania Business College with a degree as a Legal Assistant and worked in the legal profession for 13 years.

Born and raised in New Holland, Nicki and her husband, Chad, of 12 years share two children, Cody and Taylor. Nicki is an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in New Holland and enjoys being involved in their Children's Department. Nicki will usually be found staying busy with her two young children, but enjoys spending time relaxing on the beach and riding 4 wheelers at the mountains.
